"Equal parts thrilling and romantic, HeartsBlood swept me off my feet. How the author weaves a story of science and magic so seamlessly still amazes me. And did I mention the
sexual tension between the dark stranger and the heroine struggling to accept the fact her reality has been shattered? Oh yeah, this is a great one folks!"

Praxis A paranormal romance/urban fantasy thriller Blood Magic Saga Collection eBook Carolyn McCray

McCray says in the afterword that this collection has "been put through a gazillion rounds of edits." I can't see how that can possibly be true. There was a section in the middle of DeadBlood that was a word salad of sentence fragments and ungrammatical nonsense. Sections looked like they had been printed and then scanned back in using OCR -- how else to explain such bizarre typographical errors as "aruther" instead of "another"? LiveBlood seemed to mix multiple manuscript versions. At one point, the main characters split into two groups, one travelling by Jeep and the other by plane. In one chapter, Alex is on the plane. In the next chapter, he's in the Jeep. What?

I almost gave up on the collection in the first couple of chapters. They take place in an emergency room, but bore no similarity to reality of American ERs. I wish I had given up, but I stuck with it. It became like watching a train wreck. So much just doesn't make sense. At one point, the main character, Salista, is at a castle attending a royal banquet wearing a medieval-style formal gown. She's still wearing that gown when she's transported through time to San Francisco. So she's wandering around SF, doing things like eating in a restaurant, and no one comments on the fact that she's dressed in finery that would put a prom queen to shame?

I'm giving the collection two stars rather than one, because it did have some interesting ideas and, in a perverse way, it kept me reading to the end. Perhaps with some heavy cleanup editing it could be an excellent collection. But as it is, I certainly can't recommend it.

Praxis A paranormal romance/urban fantasy thriller Blood Magic Saga Collection eBook Carolyn McCray Reviews

I'm not generally a reader of the paranormal genre, however, this series has really changed my mind. As always, McCray's characters are very well developed, and the plot draws you right in. There is also a lot of action and plenty of suspense. It's definitely a page turner and a series you won't want to put down until you've completed it and, in my case at least, written your review at 300 in the morning! Great stuff, and five stars all the way!!!
This book had some interesting and creative "magic" sbout traveling to the future. The beginning was slow and not easy to understand the bigger picture until I read further into the book. While fantasy is not always logical, I found a few things in this book difficult to accept as belief within the "suspended reality" since there seemed to be some inconsistencies with story advancement. Carolyn McCray is a GREAT action writer. I have read many of her books and enjoyed them all! In my opinion, this departure from her usual action writing was not as successful.
I love Carolyn McCray's books. I only read series, I have learned I am too impatient to wait book to book.

Somehow, this series escaped my attention. Mistake! This series appears to be really early in her career, it wasn't until the third novel you could really tell it was her writing - her (in)famous wisecracks were missing. In #2, they were starting to appear, by #3 they were there as only Ms. McCray can do them.

I have never read a story (series) quite like this. Ever. Time travel, good and evil, family values, love, jealousy, pain, blood - and I am sure I am missing quite a bit - they are all here, just not in ways you expect.

The end simply cannot be the end. Please read this series and join my voice in having her write more. Unacceptable end.
I enjoyed this collection of books so much... I couldn't put it down. This has been one of the best collection that I have read so far. The books are fascinating, different, sex scenes, and they hit the heart. With out giving to much away, I absolutely loved them and wish there was one more, the last page left me with many questions, so I do not know if there is another book.... I read all of 7 books in this collection totally AMAZING!!!!
Definitely would recommend.....
A must read if you enjoy True Blood, or any paranormal romance!!!! I wish it continued....
This is a "best-selling author"? Must be the state of education in the Country today.

The premise is laughable. The books are thrown together without much thought, nothing makes sense, there is little to no character development, and there appears to have been no editing done at all. Seriously . . . there are errors on every single page grammar, spelling, syntax, added words, missing words, you name it.

This is a time travel, dystopian romance/adventure. There is high school level science spouted throughout to support the author's descriptions of her world, mostly by the female protagonist, who is supposed to be an ER physician. All just blather. The story takes place here in the present, in San Francisco, and 500 years in the future. The characters ride "vortexes" back and forth through time.

I won't even go into the plot, because it's just that dumb.

The dialogue is ridiculous. It seems like the author is trying to sound cool, using her idea of "street slang". It really, really doesn't work. In addition, the speech mannerisms she invents for her characters from the future are simply embarrassing to read.

The lead character, is described as having a Welsh father, and an Hispanic mother. A very Hispanic mother. Now, I can imagine that the Welshman may have had some Viking raider in his ancestry, somewhere, but doubt that the mother did. Nevertheless, the heroine has naturally blond hair. A recessive trait. AND, an Hispanic surname. So, unless there is some scandal there, well, just saying . . . Even a Middle School student would have questioned that, in the editing process. If there had been any editing.

The male lead is basically just described as being big, fierce, dark, intolerant, single-minded, cruel and insensitive. A lot of ink is spent talking about his "stubble", and his aroma of leather and sweat. A caveman with lots of swords and knives.

I can't actually believe that I bought this collection. I read the Robin Hood Hacker stories, some years ago, and remember them being OK, so took a chance on this collection.

DON'T DO IT. Unless you have plenty of tolerance for badly written work.
