Maria and Brockton Thornton have had a strong connection since their first meeting when she was still a very young child. It was a pretty cute meeting!

They have many years to wait and several obstacles that must be overcome before they can have any chance of a happily ever after ending.

Will they be able to thwart would be suitors and adoring females and dangerous relatives? How long will Maria hold onto her love for Brock? Or will he tire of her and all the trouble she causes?

I can see how some readers have a hard time with the age difference between these two characters, especially since it is written as if Brock is quite a bit more mature than his actual age and Maria is sometimes written to seem younger than she is. But if you realize they are only 6 years apart and the time period they are set in, it's actually more believable. At that time girls would have their debut season and oftentimes marry someone who could easily be 10+ years older than them, all in the name of titles and money and society standing.

This was a fun, even if it wasn't 100% believable, story. I'm reading my way through this author's books, this one was good but not my favorite so far.

Content: lots of kissing (Marcia is after all called the Queen of Kissing). Some very mild innuendoes. An attack and mild fighting. Not squeaky clean but still I'd consider it a clean read.

Maria's parents died and she was put in an orphanage and later claimed by her father's brother and his wife. She lived a Cinderella existence with them for two years when she was miraculously claimed by her parents intended guardian. From thence on she was raised with much love and comfort.

This is a wonderful love story but with tragedy striking at a time when life was almost perfect and her future seemed likewise near perfection. It is very romantic yet very clean and acceptable for even youth to read.

The Title relates to the story well an the book cover is not the greatest fit but is acceptable.

Marcia always doe an outstanding job of character development and surrounding background portrayal. She most always brings her characters and scenes to life for the reader. She can verbally depict intimate scenes on a way they are all-consuming yet clean.

Equally her talent depicts brashness in characters without ever writing bad language.

My review of this book offers a strong Five Stars rating.
I completely loved this book. I could picture what was going on with her fantastic adverbs an adjectives. Is there a sequel?
MLM's books, I like them. Some I prefer to others. This wasn't one of my ever favorites, but still the romantic tension (clean and restrained) between the H and h was exciting and passionate. The story didn't grab me like a lot of MLM's books do. I usually hate the villain more, and usually love the H and h more.
I loved this book! This is in my top three favorites of my Marcia collection! Yes her books are my guilty pleasure, and so I have almost all of them. This one may even be my favorite one of hers, because anytime I need a sweet sweet love story, with enough suspense to keep it from getting boring, I fall back on this one. Because I do love it! So so sweet!!!
This is a classic Marcia Lynn McClure book and it's a great read, again and again! Oh, that Brock Thornton!!!
This is one of my favorite Marcia McClure books, it is a sweet and endering love story. I just finished it for the 2nd time and loved it just as much as the first time. Quick and delightful read, plenty of sweet kisses and romance! I have know read this book for the 3rd time, something about it pulls me back to it time and time again. I know I will yet read it again. I think it's the way Marcia has developed and described this love that Maria and Brock have and the romantic way it all unfolds. It's one of those curl up in a blanket by the fire kind of reads.
Typical to all Marcia Lynn McClure's works, this novella was outstanding. The hero and heroine are so beautiful inside and out they make your heart ache - literally! As one of the other reviewers mentioned, I thought the plot twist in the story was a bit weak if you're comparing it to an epic, 400 page historical romance, but that's not what this novella is. It's extremely romantic, it's beautiful, it makes your heart smile and your mind sigh with longing and yet also with satisfaction. It is the type of story that takes you away for a short time to a wonderful fantasy of a love story and it's exactly the type of read I turn to when those epic, heavy romances are just too much for me to take on.

I was lucky enough to download this when it was offered for free, (I'm not a Prime member.) I'm not sure I would pay the current $2.99 for it since it is a novella and not terribly deep. But price is so subjective, and I'm still definitely in the camp of readers that wont pay full, mass-market paperback prices for the equivalent eBook version. This is a very lovely story and highly recommended for lover's of McClure's other historical and fairy tale works!
