***possible spoiler alert. ..if you read between the lines of what I wrote***This book is not my favorite book of the series. Bart, the younger son, is the worst son you could ever imagine. He makes life a living hell for his entire family. It is cringe-worthy to read how he speaks to his family and how he acts towards them. I do not care for the ending as I feel it gave no happiness to Cathy or Chris. Even though their relationship was morally wrong, I still found myself rooting for them to be happy in the end. They deserved so much more than what they got in their younger years. It is a shame that Cathy let her anger eat her up inside and she spent most of her adult years seeking revenge against her mother. I just wish that VC Andrews had given them a different ending. She made it seem as though they both found happiness together in the end but I do not feel that they experienced true happiness in their lifetime on earth. I'd recommend this book only to complete the saga that is Chris and Cathy and their children... But that is the only reason why I would recommend it. Because if you do not read this one, you would be left wondering what happened to them.

This was one of my favorites in the series reading it this time around. The last time I read them I was a teenager so there is a very different perspective now as an adult it was almost like I never read them. This book focuses on Jory and Bart as adults, Jory living his dream and Bart still trying to figure out who he is and how to get out of the unholy shadow of his parents being siblings. But when the family reunites at the new Foxworth Hall of course tragedy ensues. I never like to put spoilers in my reviews so I won't go into too much detail on that but it keeps you intrigued...it's a hard book to put down. The whole series is like being in a different world and is so unlike what I usually read but I love it now as much as I did twenty years ago. Too bad this is the last one and we never find out what happens after...the actual last book in the series is a prequel to the series. Great book.
The series should have stopped with 'If There Be Thorns'. While this book was somewhat good, I thought it would never end. Most of the book kept repeating parts in one way or another. I found myself becoming impatient...wanting the book to finally come to an end. Don't get me wrong, I'm a V.C. Andrews fan and loved the other books in the series, I just found this book to be a tad too much. The series, in my opinion, should have ended with 'If There Be Thorns' and left the readers wondering what had taken place after the family was saved by Chris and Cathy's mother...not relive every detail and every aspect of the "day in the life of" the adults and the children who had grown into adults. Or perhaps written in a way that it wasn't too overdone. There were some valid lessons about life that were in this book, but this was the one book I could easily went without reading. However, I wanted to see the series through to the end, so I pushed forward until I had finished the book. Some may enjoy this book, some may not...I did enjoy some parts, but felt it didn't compliment the series.
I enjoyed the first three books in this series. I read them in high school. I recently saw both Lifetime movie versions of the first two books which compelled me to reread the books because I knew there were some differences from the books and the movies and of course it would drive me crazy if I hadn't reread them! I had never read Seeds of Yesterday, so I bought that and read it on my kindle. It was good until about three-quarters of the way through when it began to drag and become repetitive. I wanted it to end completely different from what it did. I thought it would be an interesting twist to have Bart marry Cindy. He never really hated her only thought her actions were not pure. And Cindy well, who knew all of Bart's complexities better than her. She was also so much like Cathy, which Melody mentioned more than once- Bart wanted a woman like his mother. I agreed that Chris had to die before Bart could become whole and appreciate all he had done for him, but Cathy was a strong person in this book and to go off and die? I would like to have seen her slowly go mad-stealing away in the attic, decorating it with flowers (like she did) and perhaps being admitted to the same institution her mother was in. The townspeople would talk of the girl who was now in the institution that had been locked in the attic by her mother the great Corrine Foxworth! There also needed to be a chapter devoted to Joel's leaving. Perhaps Bart and him got in a horrible fight where Bart orders Joel to leave...finally realizing he is evil. This chapter would uncover the master plan Joel had as Bart being "the chosen one" to save the Foxworth family from all of their sins. Joel would also confess to breaking the clipper ship and not mailing the invitations stating he thought it was for Bart's own good or something like that. Then Cindy and Bart now singing together being evangelists would keep hidden the fact that they grew up as brother and sister....they were not blood related after all so it wasn't a sin....or was it? What would their huge congregation and following of people think if they found out? Oh, it could have been so much better.
This is the fourth installment of the Foxworth family, Bart Jory and Cindy are early thirties, twenty five and sixteen. Jory and his wife Melodie are expecting their first child and an accident leaves them devastated, Christopher and Cathy finds out they have a long lost uncle, Joel Foxworth. He's the younger son of their grandmother Olivia and their grandfather Malcolm, he was missing and presumed dead as a young man of eighteen. He moves to the restored home that burned down. Foxworth Hall.
